The Himalaya: Where Tagara Grows

Valeriana wallichii is native to the Himalayan region. For a plant whose identity has been argued over for two centuries, habitat is one of the few things nobody disputes.

A mountain plant

The Indian valerian grows in the Himalaya, and it is from there that the classical material comes. That geography separates it cleanly from Valeriana officinalis, the valerian of European herbals, which is a different species with a different range.

Why altitude is mentioned

Aromatic roots are usually associated with cooler, higher ground, and Tagara sits in that company alongside the other aromatic roots of the materia medica. The association is descriptive rather than a claim about the material.

What we do and do not say

Art of Vedas states the species and the part on the label and tests every batch. We do not make provenance claims beyond what we can evidence, because where a plant grows is a botanical fact and not a guarantee of anything in a jar. Tagara Capsules are made under Good Manufacturing Practice and the ingredient is reviewed against EU food law.
